Today we stopped at Manley’s Restaurant on Route 4 in Kingsbury NY, or perhaps it’s Manley’s Route 4 Restaurant in Hudson Falls NY, google is unclear on this point. One thing is certain though, it was delicious.
As Geoff put it, this was our first honest to goodness down home diner, no fancy chrome anywhere, just pure country diner, complete with wood paneling.
We both ordered “The Big Breakfast” on the recommendation of the nice lady at the Comfort Inn in Saratoga Springs who recommended Manley’s to us, which was more food than should be legal for a single person to consume, all for the low price of $6.95.
Geoff had the rye bread, sausages, home fries, and blueberry pancakes.
I had the homemade bread, bacon, hash browns, and chocolate chip pancakes.
I can talk about the bacon, which was _exactly_ right, or the eggs which were deliciously over easy, the pancakes which were chocolate’ty as promised, but the real stand out for me was the homemade bread. It was soft like warm butter on the inside, with a crispy shell of toasty’ness holding it all together, and a perfect consistency for soaking up the egg yolk. For the bread alone, I’d return to Manley’s on Route 4.

Looks lovely, if chilly. I am truly impressed by both your organization and dedication. If I manage to save the photos from my camera within the next year and send a single group email from our current trip I’ll be impressed with myself.
I’ll try to return in kind and take a snap of our next roo steak.
xo and happy christmas from Oz,
Cara and Matty

WTG guys. This is fun to watch. One request that you keep it G rated as Leo enjoys following your journey (slight F’n A comment in one of the vids). Thanks! See you soon!

Great video – love the music. Yup, you guys are organized and impressive SMIUs (small mobile intelligent units) to be sure.
I worked in a diner briefly you should consider learning some ‘diner lingo’ a la http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diner_Lingo
I have this uncomfortable image in my mind of Darren in a diner saying to the waitress “Burn one, take it through the garden and pin a rose on it, hit it with cow feed and put legs on it it’s going for a walk.” [i.e. hamburger with lettuce, tomato and onion with a side salad to go]. It’s all so surrealist the language if taken literally – which, upon second thought, is kind of a helpful paradigm to have an appreciation of when you’re a policy wonk I suppose.
Happy trails.

@Claire – please accept my apologies for my foul-mouthed comrade. He has been offending my delicate sensibilities for some years now.
I’ve been trying to encourage him to replace his more colourful language with alternatives – you can expect to hear a lot more ‘sugars’ and ‘frakkings’ in the next several films.
And to Leo – thanks for watching our films bud. I’m looking forward to seeing you in a few days!

Thanks for the compliments everyone! It’s great fun doing this!
@cara yes it’s lots of work, but it’s fun, and it’s the kind of thing I’m going to look at 6 months from now and remember every little detail behind the scenes… for that alone it’s worth the effort
@claire & leo: sorry for the potty mouth, I wanted Geoff to bleep out the swearing but apparently it’s more involved than simply pressing a “bleep” button in the software… I’m training myself to say frak now
@brady: are you sure I won’t get punched in the face if I ask a diner waitress to take it through the garden and pin a rose on it? =D Maybe I’ll save the diner speak for Hampton
@susie: Thanks! If you can think of anywhere generally between Saranac Lake and Sackville you’d like us to visit we’re willing to take requests (I think we’re heading to Hampton, New Hampshire on Brady’s suggestion)
